Wednesday I made a post about this car and I saw it and drove it yesterday. I now understand why the price is so low. There's a wheel bearing to do, an alignment, the suspension linkages needs to be changed in the rear and the front brakes needs to be done. Now, if they don't fix it and I do it myself, they will knock the price down 360$. Seems like a good deal to me, but when I drove it I kinda hate it. The wheel is bulky, the interior feels like you're wrapped, the gauges hides the view a bit compared to the NA, it doesn't feel like a point a shoot type of car like the NA, the 6 spd shifter got me pissed because of how close the gears are when you shift and doesn't go in smoothly in 2nd from time to time, it felt heavy and the throttle response was kinda absent. But, it's really beautiful, has all the little whistle and bells I want, it's quiet and I can brag about it (I can't help myself sometimes...).
Some NA/NB Miata owners tend to have same reaction as me and say that it's a disappointment, then some NC owners say that by putting aftermarket coilovers, lighter weight tires and an aggressive alignment, it feels like a NA. So there's my dilemma, I might not like it now but with simple mods I might like it and I don't know if I should really make the move. What do you think Oppo?

We would tell you the answer to your question, but it appears you've found it ;)

This is always a bit of a challenge because you never will know if it will turn out how you like until it is already too late. If you have any reservations you should always either pass it up or wait and do more research. There are always other options out there you just need to look for them. How much was the asking price?

10000$

That's what I thought. I do like the style and all the equipment that comes with it. But raw Go-Kart it ain't and that's why I don't like it. It feels like I'm driving a luxurious car.

Agreed. TBH, I thought "Huh, I thought a Miata would be a bit more lively" when I got behind the wheel of the NC. People generally have a love/hate relationship with them, I suppose.

Even the sales manager that test drove mine to evaluate it said it just turns right away and there's no delay with the acceleration compared to the NC....looks like I'm stuck with my NA again.

I love the NA. Best Miata ever, if I may be so bold. Can't go wrong—cheap parts, driver immersion, great looks, classic from the start, easy to work on, great aftermarket, great following... I'll just shut up now and let you draw conclusions you've already made.

See if you can find a sorted out NC to go for a ride in to see if you like the way a polished one feels. I have yet to drive or be in an NC but I don't know if I could give up the way my NB feels. It does seem that the NC's need a little suspension work to get them to feel right but that one is going to be sloppy with the wheel bearing and linkages needing replacement. That also brings up, what kind of life did this car lead to have to have the bushings and what ever is worn out in the suspension department. Was it tracked or just driven poorly into curbs and on very harsh roads? Brakes are an easy job, wheel bearing can be done at the same time.
Really I would see if you could find a gracious NC owner that can take you out in an NC that isn't ragged out.

It racked up a lot of mileage. It's about 150000 miles. That's why it's kinda tired.

I couldn't agree more. Probably by switching the interior to NB bits it might compensate lol.

I agree; NB seats are nice. A '90-'93 Miata with a 1.8 swap, Torsen LSD, '95 M wheels, and NB interior would make for an incredible car with all Miata parts.

I'd pass on this. I know for NA/NBs that isn't too high of mileage but not sure about the NC and how they hold up to lots of miles.

Wow, that was a profound moment! Haha—I need to start using that.

Well another good point is that the engine got changed by the dealership for a 2012 model engine with 51000km. But yeah, I don't know how the rest will react with that much mileage.

I bought a special edition just like it a month ago. Naturally, I say buy it.

I'm curious how the used Miata market will react to the introduction of the ND. Perhaps wait until the ND comes out and hope for a depression in NC prices?

When I had my NB, I test drove an NC and thought it was pretty alright. My NB was a 6-speed so I was already used to it. I can't speak to how well an NC would respond to a nice alignment, but a good alignment worked wonders on my NB so it's certainly possible.
As for all the stuff wrong with it, if they're only knocking $360 off the price I'd let em do all that work.

I still need to think. I keep checking Miata.net and they keep saying how good the car is after a proper alignment and better suspension kit.

Actually they only knock 360$ for the wheel bearing because I really didn't want to do this myself. I could probably knock the price even more with everything else that needs to be done. The more I think about it, the more I want it though...

True, but at the same time I'm an impulsive buyer and I want that limited edition miata for that cheap price. Just look at it lol.

Is this going to be your main car? I wouldn't want to buy a car that immediately needs a bunch of work put into it, especially one that's still relatively new. If it's a dealership, it's only really going to cost them parts to fix it, you might as well save yourself the trouble.

Nope, I have another car as my DD. My plan was to get the Miata, sell the one I have right now, leave it in the garage for the winter, de-plate it and remove the insurance, then work on it in summer. Now I'm not sure...
